The need for liquid calcium in corn is often overlooked, especially if the soil tests show high in calcium content. Just because soil test shows medium to high calcium level, it is not necessarily available to crops in soluble form.
In most cases, you will benefit from additional soluble calcium, particularly to maximize the uptake of essential nutrients such as ammonium, potassium and phosphorus. Hi-Cal liquid calcium is an excellent source of available calcium. When soil applied, it increases the uptake of nitrogen (the critical nutrient for corn crops) and other nutrients. It also slows down the conversion of ammonium nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen, resulting in greater nitrogen uptake by the crop. The ammonium ions also stimulates phosphorus uptake. By acidifying the higher pH soil near the root surfaces, it also increases the general nutrient uptake and inhibits certain root rots and other diseases.
Hi-Cal liquid calcium is 100% water soluble, clear solutions with 12% calcium and 24% chloride contents.
